What are Super Absorbent Polymer dressings?
Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) dressings are designed to absorb and retain moderate-to-heavy amounts of exudate in wounds with excessive drainage while maintaining a moist wound bed. These dressings contain polymer material that can hold several times its weight in moisture and convert it to a gel-like material that can be held away from the wound bed.
When should a SAP dressing be used?
When exudate is not appropriately managed, it has been known to slow wound-healing and negatively impact a patient’s life. SAP dressings have some of the highest absorption rates and capacities on the market, making them an optimal choice for heavily draining wounds. Due to their ability to lock away moisture, SAP dressings are a common choice to be used with compression therapy bandages and garments.
